Flying Beyond Visual Line of Sight

LEVEL 1 COMPLEX FLIGHT REVIEW (ONLY)

Unlock the next level of drone operations with the Level 1 Complex Flight Review. This assessment prepares you to safely and confidently operate beyond visual line of sight, with practice time included and the option to use your own drone or request a rental.

$400 CAD

    • A drone for the review (or request a rental from DFR Solutions in advance for $50 CAD)

    • Your Basic Pilot Certificate or Advanced Pilot Certificate

    • Proof of successful completion of the RPAS Level 1 Complex Operations exam and, if not already an Advanced Pilot, the RPAS Advanced Operations exam

    • Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, health card with photo, or passport)

    • A Visual Observer (VO) – required for certain exercises (the VO must hold at least a Basic Pilot Certificate as per CARs, as outlined by TC)

  • ~ 3 hours

  • In order to be admitted to the Level 1 Complex flight review, the candidate shall have successfully completed and passed the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System – Advanced Operations exam AND the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System – Level 1 Complex exam. An Advanced flight review and related Advanced Pilot certificate are not required prior to completing the Level 1 Complex flight review.

    We provide service up to 1.5 hours outside of Sudbury at no additional cost. Locations beyond this radius can be arranged for an additional travel fee.

  • 1. Scope
    This flight review is required by Transport Canada for candidates pursuing the Level 1 Complex Pilot Certificate. The review includes pre-flight preparation, supervised flight exercises, and post-flight feedback. Candidates must first pass the RPAS Advanced Operations exam (unless already an Advanced Pilot) and the RPAS Level 1 Complex Operations exam.

    2. Equipment
    Participants are encouraged to bring their own drone. A training drone can be provided by DFR Solutions upon request for an additional fee of $50 CAD. All equipment must meet Transport Canada compliance requirements.

    3. Visual Observer (VO)
    Certain exercises for the Level 1 Complex review require the use of a Visual Observer (VO), especially if a DAA system is not available. The VO must be provided and prepared by the candidate in advance. The flight reviewer cannot act as a VO. The VO must hold at least a Basic Pilot Certificate as required under CARs and outlined by Transport Canada.

    4. Location and Delivery
    Flight reviews are available in Sudbury, Greater Sudbury, North Bay, Blind River, Elliot Lake, Espanola, and Little Current (approximately 1.5 hours outside of Sudbury). Locations beyond this radius may be arranged for an additional travel fee.

    5. Fees and Payments
    The cost of the Level 1 Complex flight review is $400 CAD. Optional drone rental is available for $50 CAD. Payment must be made in full by e-transfer before the scheduled review.

    6. Certification
    Successful completion of the flight review will be entered into Transport Canada’s system by the flight reviewer. Candidates must provide their Basic or Advanced Pilot Certificate, proof of successful completion of the required exams, and valid identification for verification. Transport Canada is solely responsible for issuing the Level 1 Complex Pilot Certificate.

    7. Cancellations and Rescheduling
    Cancellations made at least 48 hours before the scheduled review will receive a full refund. Cancellations within 48 hours are non-refundable but may be rescheduled at the discretion of DFR Solutions.

    8. Participant Responsibilities
    Participants are responsible for:

    • Bringing all required documents and identification.

    • Providing and preparing a qualified Visual Observer.

    • Following all safety instructions during the review.

    • Ensuring their personal drone (if used) is in safe, working condition.

    9. Liability
    DFR Solutions provides training and flight reviews to the best of its expertise but is not responsible for the outcome of Transport Canada’s certification process, nor for any accidents, damages, or incidents that occur during or after training.

    10. Confidentiality
    Personal information collected will be used strictly for review administration and Transport Canada certification requirements. Information will not be shared with third parties except as required by law.
