DRONE SEARCH AND RESCUE TRAINING (SARs)
Learn how to use drones effectively in search and rescue operations. Training covers mobilization in airspace, search patterns, weather and terrain considerations, risk assessments, and when drones are not appropriate. You’ll also learn the psychology of missing persons, how to use thermal cameras, and what to do when a person is found. Includes flight training and planning for VLOS, EVLOS, BVLOS operations, a SARS manual overview, and a record of training. Available in-person or hybrid, with training available from North Bay to Elliot Lake and negotiable beyond. Preferred Advanced Pilot Certificated Before Enrolling.

This course builds the knowledge and skills needed for advanced RPAS operations, covering regulations, human factors, weather, navigation, and practical flight training for both VLOS and BVLOS scenarios. Training includes classroom learning, radio operations, and extensive field exercises leading to final evaluations.

Participants must hold a Basic Pilot Certificate at minimum. An Advanced Pilot Certificate or higher is strongly recommended for those intending to take part in the full Search and Rescue training, as it involves complex operations and BVLOS scenarios.

We provide service up to 1.5 hours outside of Sudbury at no additional cost. Locations beyond this radius can be arranged for an additional travel fee.

1. Course Scope
This course covers the use of RPAS for Search and Rescue, from Basic to Advanced and Level 1 Complex operations. Training includes regulations, human factors, meteorology, navigation, flight and radio operations (ROC-A if required), field exercises (day and night), flight practice, and operational manual review.2. Equipment
Participants must bring their own drone for all training and field exercises. All equipment used must meet Transport Canada compliance requirements.3. Location and Delivery
Courses are offered in-person or hybrid, with in-person training available in Sudbury, Greater Sudbury, North Bay, Blind River, Elliot Lake, Espanola, and Little Current (approximately 1.5 hours outside of Sudbury). Locations beyond this radius may be arranged for an additional travel fee.4. Fees and Payments
The cost of the course is $700 CAD. Payment must be made in full by e-transfer prior to the start of the course.5. Certification
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a record of training and a certificate of completion from DFR Solutions.6. Cancellations and Rescheduling
Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours before the scheduled start date to receive a full refund. Cancellations within 48 hours are non-refundable but may be rescheduled at DFR Solutions’ discretion.7. Client Responsibilities
Participants are responsible for:Bringing their own compliant RPAS for training.
Bringing the required certification and identification.
Following all safety instructions during classroom and field training.
8. Liability
DFR Solutions provides training and guidance to the best of its knowledge and expertise. DFR Solutions is not responsible for any accidents, damages, or incidents that occur during or after training.9. Confidentiality
